Calico had three best
friends-Jonah the mule, Tuffy the cow, and Ramie the dog. Calico,
Jonah and Tuffy shared a huge, grassy meadow with other horses
and cows.
Most of the time, Calico,
Jonah and Tuffy grazed on the sweet fragrant grass that grew
so thick and green.
Sometimes, when a good breeze came up or on cool, crisp mornings,
they would chase each other around and around in play.
When they were tired, they would gather under a clump of tall,
fragrant pines and doze, head to tail, the wind through the
branches lulling them to sleep. They were all the best of friends!
